MADE51 is a global brand created by UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, which connects refugee artisans with local social enterprises (LSEs) to design, make and market home décor and accessories across the world.
Â
The brand has been established to help refugees achieve economic independence by making use of their valuable skills, traditions and heritage as part of a sustainable value chain.
Â
MADE51 currently collaborates with 23 social enterprises in 15 countries, enabling each of the LSEs to work directly with refugee artisan groups to develop and produce a line in the MADE51 collection.
Â
By 2030, MADE51 aims to have directly impacted 300,000 refugees worldwide. MADE51 is supported by an international network of Strategic Partners which contribute technical skills and sector expertise to help integrate refugees into the global marketplace.
Life in Syria is an ongoing photographic project and book, born from the intent to show the reality that millions of Syrians are forced to live every day. The book collects the imagery of five Syrian photographers, showing some of the moments that have left their mark on them between 2011-2016.
Â
Life in Syria aims to communicate the humanity and ongoing life in Syria and the active non-violent struggle of the Syrian people, often overlooked by the media and overshadowed by headlines. The exhibition restores the narrative of the reality of the Syrian conflict to be told by Syrians.
Â
On display just outside 8 Devonshire Square during Refugee Week are 27 of these images, chosen by the photographers themselves. See more about the book here.
